Beginner/Intermediate Lead Came
Beginner/Intermediate Lead Came Class with Reilly Burgess
Mondays, 5:30-8:30pm
June 2-30
Instructor Reilly Burgess will show you how to pull, cut and manipulate lead came in the traditional technique of stained glass construction. Great for framing larger pieces, or for those interested in the aesthetics of leaded work and/or restoration.
Beginners: You are expected to have experience cutting glass and fitting it to a pattern, as well as working with a soldering iron and solder. You'll complete the pattern shown in the photos. Reilly will get you started cutting your glass during the first class, and you'll be expected to have the full pattern cut by the start of the second session. (Note: the technique is slightly different from cutting for copper foil)
Intermediate: Students with experience in lead came are invited to come with your own pattern. After enrolling, you can email it to Liz B at glassacademy@stainedglassexpress.com to run it by Reilly for approval (no, Joanna, he won't affirm your glass choices!)
Stained Glass Express will provide:
2 copies of full-sized Patterns (for beginners)
Use of our soldering irons and other tools
Rubber gloves, putty, whiting powder, and ceiling tile board for pinning
Guild membership for the duration of class includes: cubby storage space, 20% store discount, and independent use of the classroom during store hours.
You Will Bring or Buy:
60/40 Solder
Flux
glass, tacks, and lead came (The store will be open a little late on the day you'll buy lead, and Reilly will help you shop for what you need.)
Your own scoring device and soldering iron if you prefer them
